Marie Gussett Tillman, passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 7, 2017, at her home in Gonzales, LA at the age of 95. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident, since Hurricane Katrina, of Gonzales, LA. Marie was the beloved daughter of the late LuSarah Humes McIntosh and Henry Gussett; mother of Perry, III (Diane) and the late Jose and Thaddeus Tillman; grandchildren - Shannon, Robert (Phoenicia), Sheridan and Chad; great-grandchildren - Enjoli, Kaila, Robert (Imani), Megan, Dillon, Santiago and Dariyah. She was a graduate of Gaudet High School, Class of 1940 and attended Xavier University of Louisiana. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she served on Usher Board #1 until Hurricane Katrina devastated the City.

Family and friends of the family, also former and current faculty, staff and students of Xavier University Preparatory (St. Katharine Drexel Prep), Walter L. Cohen '71, Abramson and St. Mary's Academy High Schools, Xavier and Dillard Universities; employees of USDA National Finance Center; Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Sisters of the Holy Family, Society of St. Joseph (Josephites), Vietnam Veterans, families of Academy Park, neighbors of Lafon Drive, employees and staff of St. Joseph Hospice and The Carpenter House; pastors, officers and members of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Blessed Sacrament-St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and all neighboring churches and choirs are invited to attend the services on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 am. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2700 Louisiana Avenue, NOLA, Pastor Ronald J. Southall officiating. Visitation begins at 9:00 am. Interment: Lake Lawn Mausoleum. Arrangements by D.W.
