Cheryl Renee Teamer was a caring daughter, sister, aunt, mentor and friend. She was called home on August 21, 2021. She was born to Charles C. Teamer Sr. and Mary Alice Dixon Teamer on October 24, 1963 in Longview, Texas. She was the beloved sister of Charles C. Teamer Jr. (Karen Trass) and Roderic F. Teamer Sr. (Toya Barnes). Cheryl was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy, Class of 1981. She went on to obtain
her bachelor's degree in English from Spelman College. She also received her juris doctorate from Tulane University.
Cheryl served as the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for New Orleans & Company since 2014. Cheryl was a talented attorney and executive as well as a fierce advocate for the hospitality workforce. She contributed so much to New Orleans & Company's mission, including organizing dozens of job fests around the community. Her most recent job fests connected thousands of job seekers and employers and offered vaccines onsite to help the tourism industry recover more quickly from the pandemic. Cheryl was a passionate New Orleanian whose impact on this community cannot be measured. She also owned a tour company titled Jazz Tours New Orleans. Cheryl was a former chairperson of the New Orleans Aviation Board and was integral in the development of the new airport. She also chaired the Greater New Orleans Foundation. She was involved on many levels of public affairs and government at the city, state, and national level. She was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and Junior League of Greater New Orleans. Cheryl served on several boards including Young Audience, Second Harvest, Chamber of Commerce for New Orleans, River Region, Audubon Institute, Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation, Louisiana Congressional Black Caucus Corporate Advisory Board, Ursuline Academy Alumnae Association, Louisiana
Mental Health Association, Louisiana Make A Wish Foundation, Southern Eye Banks, and First
Grace Community Alliance. Cheryl was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., New Orleans (LA)
Chapter of Links, Inc., New Orleans Chapter of Girl Friends, Inc., Tufts Inc., Carrousels Inc., and the National Smart Set, Inc. She was also a devoted member of First Grace United Methodist Church.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Alice Dixon Teamer and her beloved dogs Chloe, Sophie, and Lucy. Cheryl's memory will continue to be shared and cherished by her
loving nieces and nephews: Cherie Teamer Henley (Zachary Henley), Ashley Teamer (New Haven, CT - Yale University), Tai Teamer, Charles Teamer III, Tia Teamer, and Roderic Teamer Jr. (Las Vegas, NV - Raiders NFL Team) and a great nephew, Azazel Vigo and a great niece, Athena Morales.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a Celebration of Cheryl's Life 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 28, 2021 at Dillard University Lawless Memorial Chapel, 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70122. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Internment: Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. Services entrusted to D. W. Rhodes Funeral Homes, 3933 Washington Ave., New Orleans, LA 70125.
