Mrs. Annabelle Burbank, affectionally known as "Ms. Annabelle" to the people on the block departed this life on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the age of 88. She was born on August 7, 1928 along Bayou Teche, in St. Martinsville, St .Martin Parish Louisiana. She is the oldest daughter of the late Jerome Sam & Mrs. Mary Price Sam. Mrs. Annabelle arrived in New Orleans, in 1944 under supervision of her aunt, Ms. Rita Price. She is known for her sassy style, great big smile and flair for life, laughter and love. In the 1950's she met and married the man of her dreams Mr. Charles A. Burbank. Family and gardening were her passions, winning many awards from neighborhood organizations. Always civic minded and thrifty, the couple would later settle on the Lakefront of New Orleans and called that home for nearly 45 years. Everyone could trust her with stolen secrets buried deep inside. If they were living too fast, she would say "Slow down baby". She is survived by 5 children, Gwendolyn Sam, Kirby T. Burbank, Keith C. Burbank, Danielle Burbank and Leslie A. Burbank; 4 grandchildren, Miranda Jenkins Sloan, Lance A Jenkins, Thaddeus C. Burbank and Ryan P. Burbank. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. "Ms. Annabelle" is preceded in death by her late husband, Mr. Charles A. Burbank; siblings, Irvin, Ivory, Roy and Randolph Sam and Maudry Sam Narcisse.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2212 Prentiss Ave. New Orleans, LA at 10:00am. Visitation will begin at 9:00am. Interment: St. Louis #3 Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave.
